Testimonials

I love Crossfit Bishop. I am the kind of girl that isn't content with 30 minutes of "cardio" on a bike, or a step aerobics class. I like the full body burn, the opportunity to compete, and most of all the surprise that comes with doing something you didn't think you could do. Crossfit is the master at all of this. Crossfit breaks your body down so it can build back up into a better stronger one. It challenges your mind when you do three more reps than you thought possible. And it teaches your heart all you are capable of. Colin is a great instructor. I’ve never had a personal trainer but it is awesome having someone watching your form so closely, it makes you feel safe knowing that someone is looking out for you during challenging exercises so that you can push yourself a little further. Crossfit Bishop has got Colins intensity and attention to detail, Mollys inspiring fitness and kind spirit, a group of incredibly fun and fit people who are as psyched as you and an adorable baby too. Its certainly one of my favorite places to be in Bishop!!

Annie Trujillo

I originally began training under Colin at CrossFit Bishop as a way to increase my strength, power, speed, and agility in order to be stronger and faster while climbing and dashing around in the high mountains.  So far so good!  But Colin's rewardingly grueling workouts have also had an unintentional side effect...I have become stronger and faster at my job too!  You see, I work at a small grocery store, and handle hundreds of cases of heavy product a week.  I stack and lift and push and slide and roll and pull things all over the place, everyday.  One evening I was forced to load a full keg of beer into the back of a truck alone.  My previous month's training of similar movements gave me the mental confidence and the physical strength to complete the task safely and efficiently.  Functional strength rocks!  Also, since appearance is a consequence of fitness (i.e., CrossFit makes you look good naked), I also had the confidence to flash a smile to the impressed girl that purchased the keg.  Thanks Colin!

Crossfit Works!  As a young buck, flush with time to get out in the mountains, I felt strongly that the best training for climbing and backcountry skiing was... climbing and backcountry skiing.  Now I'm by no means the busiest guy, nor do I have the most sedentary job, but I've felt the pinch of time in recent months.  I've spent many days over these busy months with Colin at Crossfit Bishop.   Colin energizes the classes, exudes knowledge and confidence, and successfully walks the fine line between motivation and all out pushing.  I just had my first opportunity in months to test my new Crossfitted bod'.  I can say that the total body training and the fresh, varied workouts make a huge difference!  The strength and endurance gains from Crossfit really shined on a recent one-day, monstrous exploratory ski tour in the High Sierra. I look forward to continuing to train and continuing to express strength gains.

I really appreciate all the dedication, knowledge, and energy you and Molly are so generous in giving. Your trained, focused attention and interest in supporting not only my fitness goals, but maximizing the quality of my performance, keeps me engaged and committed. It is inspiring to be around and has been a great catalyst fueling a new level in my health and fitness. It has always been a priority for me, but sometimes the conditions just have to be right to step up the quality and intensity. I suppose much like a CF workout...So, really, thanks. You guys are providing something very worthy to the Bishop community.

CrossFit is a different kind of fitness program that requires much more than gripping a bar and hammering out concentration curls. The complexity and variety of the movements, coupled with the intensity makes for a compelling system of improving one's physical and mental fitness. This is not accomplished without expert, careful, selfless coaching which Colin Broadwater provides.

BUCK FURPEES!!!!

February 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterColin

OK, here we go!!! As a coach I'm totally freaking stoked on the first workout. I think our athletes will perform very well here.

Krista this is a great way for you to enter the competitive world of CrossFit. Good time domain for you and great movement for you as your very strong at push ups and squats and your jumping is definitely good enough to keep you moving through this.

Jake there is nothing to slow you down on this one so just keep charging hard. Tap into that aggressive side and don't let the mental factor of this one stop you...

Phill you're at a little bit of a disadvantage to Jake and Krista here with your size, but I'm betting that your pace will be mesmerizing and you'll come out with a very solid score and it will be an interesting race between the Kiddoo bro's!!!

Gavin you're in a good place for this one. Nothing too technical just hard work, and you're very good at pushing through. I think you can give the Kiddoo boys a run for their money on this one. Start fast and hang on until the finish.

Philip you're a beast! I'm looking forward to seeing your name near the top of the leaderboard on this one.

From an athlete perspective I'm pissed because I absolutely despise burpees. I'm gonna hurt pretty bad and I hate losing at anything. Also, though I'm totally stoked about this cause a lot of what CrossFit is about for me is doing the stuff that you hate! I'm gonna give this thing my all and smile on the inside as I try not to puke my guts out.

We'll be posting the workout for our CrossFit Bishop WOD on Friday so get ready. Please post your strategies for the workout here on the forum. If you could pull off 20 burpees in the first minute and 15 in the second and alternate through the seven minutes that way you'd end up with 125 total...

We had a burpee convo in the "Critical thinking" thread in this forum about burpees once before, specifically Burpee skill transfer part 6. Where coach Carl goes over the "burpee kip" "dirty burpee" "floppy seal". A strategy that might might to be implemented on this workout so you don't have to do 100+ full push ups.

Only rules being that the chest and hip has to hit the deck, and you have to hit the target above your head. I think the burpee kip could be efficient in this long haul.

:)

February 23, 2012 | Unregistered Commentervicles

The worm technique might work here. It meets the chest and hip standard to the deck. Having said this, it leaves no time for rest at the bottom like the floppy seal method.

do these burpees without shoes! A pair of shoes on the light side weighs 8 oz each. That is a 1 lb total. do a 100 burpees and that 100lbs you lifted 6 in. off the floor

7 minutes of Burpees is a humbling experience. Glad to have this WOD behind us!
Serious output from CrossFit Bishop.
Can' wait until the 12.2 post.

February 25, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterphill

up until the 60ith burpee, I was feeling pretty good, then it was pure torture and determination to finish as many more for the rest of the half of the seven minutes. Yes a very humbling experience....can't wait to see the next WOD!

Howie cranked out 111 in excellent style this evening at the 5:00 class!!! I got smashed by this one at a mere 82?!?! I've seen my fitness flatlining or declining for the past several weeks and now is the time to do something about it!!! It's too bad I coudn't get my shit together in time to be ready for the Open, but I'm stoked to see all of you doing so well after the first WOD!
We all have until June 16th to get our heads on straight when Fittest of the Sierras comes around up in Tahoe. Registration is open and we will close the gym for at least the whole weekend so as many of us as possible should head up there and represent the east side!!!

Phillip Thornburg hammered out 81 reps this fine Sunday afternoon! After nailing down 69 at 9 pm down in his garage in Independence, he came up so we could give a little more motivation, and what do you know it worked and worked well. Philip is also storing his homemade prowler at the gym!!! Wait 'til you get your hands on this monster!!!
