Meal of the Day

Testimonials

I love Crossfit Bishop. I am the kind of girl that isn't content with 30 minutes of "cardio" on a bike, or a step aerobics class. I like the full body burn, the opportunity to compete, and most of all the surprise that comes with doing something you didn't think you could do. Crossfit is the master at all of this. Crossfit breaks your body down so it can build back up into a better stronger one. It challenges your mind when you do three more reps than you thought possible. And it teaches your heart all you are capable of. Colin is a great instructor. I’ve never had a personal trainer but it is awesome having someone watching your form so closely, it makes you feel safe knowing that someone is looking out for you during challenging exercises so that you can push yourself a little further. Crossfit Bishop has got Colins intensity and attention to detail, Mollys inspiring fitness and kind spirit, a group of incredibly fun and fit people who are as psyched as you and an adorable baby too. Its certainly one of my favorite places to be in Bishop!!

I originally began training under Colin at CrossFit Bishop as a way to increase my strength, power, speed, and agility in order to be stronger and faster while climbing and dashing around in the high mountains.  So far so good!  But Colin's rewardingly grueling workouts have also had an unintentional side effect...I have become stronger and faster at my job too!  You see, I work at a small grocery store, and handle hundreds of cases of heavy product a week.  I stack and lift and push and slide and roll and pull things all over the place, everyday.  One evening I was forced to load a full keg of beer into the back of a truck alone.  My previous month's training of similar movements gave me the mental confidence and the physical strength to complete the task safely and efficiently.  Functional strength rocks!  Also, since appearance is a consequence of fitness (i.e., CrossFit makes you look good naked), I also had the confidence to flash a smile to the impressed girl that purchased the keg.  Thanks Colin!

Crossfit Works!  As a young buck, flush with time to get out in the mountains, I felt strongly that the best training for climbing and backcountry skiing was... climbing and backcountry skiing.  Now I'm by no means the busiest guy, nor do I have the most sedentary job, but I've felt the pinch of time in recent months.  I've spent many days over these busy months with Colin at Crossfit Bishop.   Colin energizes the classes, exudes knowledge and confidence, and successfully walks the fine line between motivation and all out pushing.  I just had my first opportunity in months to test my new Crossfitted bod'.  I can say that the total body training and the fresh, varied workouts make a huge difference!  The strength and endurance gains from Crossfit really shined on a recent one-day, monstrous exploratory ski tour in the High Sierra. I look forward to continuing to train and continuing to express strength gains.

I really appreciate all the dedication, knowledge, and energy you and Molly are so generous in giving. Your trained, focused attention and interest in supporting not only my fitness goals, but maximizing the quality of my performance, keeps me engaged and committed. It is inspiring to be around and has been a great catalyst fueling a new level in my health and fitness. It has always been a priority for me, but sometimes the conditions just have to be right to step up the quality and intensity. I suppose much like a CF workout...So, really, thanks. You guys are providing something very worthy to the Bishop community.

CrossFit is a different kind of fitness program that requires much more than gripping a bar and hammering out concentration curls. The complexity and variety of the movements, coupled with the intensity makes for a compelling system of improving one's physical and mental fitness. This is not accomplished without expert, careful, selfless coaching which Colin Broadwater provides.

Injury and Pride

I don't like not being 100%. I am not taking it well. Luckily, for my pride I have been busy with the kids, and the class times, have just not worked for me.  I am not sure what I did.  There is no ONE even that I remember doing and then saying, “oh , that hurt."   So that is even more frustrating.  This pain is giving me time to think about what is going on in my life and what I need to let go of in order to stay sane.

It is also really ruining my Triathlon training.  Here, I have this great goal for the new season and I am not able to do my training fully.  I do have a good, fun group of people that are very excited about this Multi-sport activity, and it is helping my spirits. :)

Here is a poem I found:

THE SQUAT

Down this road, in a gym far away,
a young man was heard to say,
“no matter what i do, my legs won’t grow”
he tried leg extensions, leg curls, and leg presses , too
trying to cheat, these sissy workouts he’d do.

from the corner of the gym where the big men train,
through a cloud of chalk and the midst of pain
where the noise is made with big forty fives,
a deep voice bellowed as he wrapped his knees.
a very big man with legs like trees.

laughing as he snatched another plate from the stack
chalking his hands and monstrous back,
said, “boy, stop lying and don’t say you’ve forgotten,
the trouble with you is you ain’t been SQUATTIN’. “

I am the fittest! ( I have been in my life)

Awesome video here!  They filmed some of this at my cert! At 1:06  I am in the background! Of course it is just the back of my head...  hee hee.  There were three people from my cert in this video!  I love that they portray more of the everyday people trying the open this year!  What a fun time for CrossFitters everywhere.

Triathlon training two weeks in and it is getting better for me.  I have a great group of people that have shown interest in starting this wonderful multi sport with me.  It has been fun getting some new people involved.  We are going to head out to keough’s this week for some swimming.  We have 12 weeks for some of them, and it will be their first Tri!  Anyone else want to join in?

Still so pumped for everyone in the Open.  Can't wait to watch my family!

Its a way of life!

We have Krista, Phill and Jake registered for the open to represent CrossFit Bishop! Go Team Kiddoo! Have you checked out their profiles on the games page!  I am so, excited for them.  The first workout comes out in 13 days! It will be great fun to watch and cheer these athletes on when they do their workouts at CFB.

I know I am not anywhere near going to the games or regional’s, I am still being humbled by workouts, even when I do them at home.  But I have decided to try the WOD's as they are posted. Maybe next year we can get more CFB registered in the Open.

Check out the CFB page on the Games page. Here.  SOOO excited for you three!  Anyone else going to register?

I started my triathlon training this week.  Adding Riding, running and swimming into my CF routine. I made a specific schedule to do one, or two activities a day.  The first two days I failed miserably.  I am going to have a rough make up day on Sunday!  But I am back on track today- posting it on my bathroom mirror.  Plus, if Jake see's it he can harass me more to MAKE time for it.   On Tuesday, he timed me, and watched me do the WOD at our house. It was good to have him encourage me, and count for me, when I forgot what comes after 8.....

We have made a goal to start making more of a conscious effort to eat better too.  We don't do horrible but we are not on the 80/20 program... So, that is our new goal. Instead of eating bad and then adding some veggies to make it seem ok, we are going to plan our meals out better, and just having the food stocked it what REALLY helps.

Life is a juggling act and I am trying to find a balance in it. Having four kids, being on the little league board, working 40 hours a week, trying to shadow coaching, maybe lunch with husband or a friend, drill team weekends, hockey games, homework, dropping lunches off, driving one kid to round valley, getting them ready for ski day....blah blah blah, and all i really want to do is go to the gym and be have more time in the evenings with my husband....I am I mom, a wife, a supervisor, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and at night... a CrossFit Athlete!

My new thought is one thing at a time.  Just like in a LONG workout, you do one at a time.  I need to incorporate this to my life. One thing at a time!

Sugar, on "How it's made."

We watched this the other night, pretty interesting.  How many times they process something.

Is anyone still totally off sugar?  I am ready to start again!
