Testimonials

I love Crossfit Bishop. I am the kind of girl that isn't content with 30 minutes of "cardio" on a bike, or a step aerobics class. I like the full body burn, the opportunity to compete, and most of all the surprise that comes with doing something you didn't think you could do. Crossfit is the master at all of this. Crossfit breaks your body down so it can build back up into a better stronger one. It challenges your mind when you do three more reps than you thought possible. And it teaches your heart all you are capable of. Colin is a great instructor. I’ve never had a personal trainer but it is awesome having someone watching your form so closely, it makes you feel safe knowing that someone is looking out for you during challenging exercises so that you can push yourself a little further. Crossfit Bishop has got Colins intensity and attention to detail, Mollys inspiring fitness and kind spirit, a group of incredibly fun and fit people who are as psyched as you and an adorable baby too. Its certainly one of my favorite places to be in Bishop!!

I originally began training under Colin at CrossFit Bishop as a way to increase my strength, power, speed, and agility in order to be stronger and faster while climbing and dashing around in the high mountains.  So far so good!  But Colin's rewardingly grueling workouts have also had an unintentional side effect...I have become stronger and faster at my job too!  You see, I work at a small grocery store, and handle hundreds of cases of heavy product a week.  I stack and lift and push and slide and roll and pull things all over the place, everyday.  One evening I was forced to load a full keg of beer into the back of a truck alone.  My previous month's training of similar movements gave me the mental confidence and the physical strength to complete the task safely and efficiently.  Functional strength rocks!  Also, since appearance is a consequence of fitness (i.e., CrossFit makes you look good naked), I also had the confidence to flash a smile to the impressed girl that purchased the keg.  Thanks Colin!

Crossfit Works!  As a young buck, flush with time to get out in the mountains, I felt strongly that the best training for climbing and backcountry skiing was... climbing and backcountry skiing.  Now I'm by no means the busiest guy, nor do I have the most sedentary job, but I've felt the pinch of time in recent months.  I've spent many days over these busy months with Colin at Crossfit Bishop.   Colin energizes the classes, exudes knowledge and confidence, and successfully walks the fine line between motivation and all out pushing.  I just had my first opportunity in months to test my new Crossfitted bod'.  I can say that the total body training and the fresh, varied workouts make a huge difference!  The strength and endurance gains from Crossfit really shined on a recent one-day, monstrous exploratory ski tour in the High Sierra. I look forward to continuing to train and continuing to express strength gains.

I really appreciate all the dedication, knowledge, and energy you and Molly are so generous in giving. Your trained, focused attention and interest in supporting not only my fitness goals, but maximizing the quality of my performance, keeps me engaged and committed. It is inspiring to be around and has been a great catalyst fueling a new level in my health and fitness. It has always been a priority for me, but sometimes the conditions just have to be right to step up the quality and intensity. I suppose much like a CF workout...So, really, thanks. You guys are providing something very worthy to the Bishop community.

CrossFit is a different kind of fitness program that requires much more than gripping a bar and hammering out concentration curls. The complexity and variety of the movements, coupled with the intensity makes for a compelling system of improving one's physical and mental fitness. This is not accomplished without expert, careful, selfless coaching which Colin Broadwater provides.

Coaches

Colin Broadwater

Colin's life has revolved around athletics from before the age of 5 years old.  He grew up playing the usual ball sports, but eventually moved more toward mountain pursuits.  His interest in climbing, skiing, and distance running drew him to the High Sierra where he spent nearly a decade exploring his physical potential on the rock, snow, and trails.  In his late twenties, he found himself in rainy Seattle, WA drinking lots of coffee, studying the human body and it's movement, and getting married to his wife, Molly Broadwater. Here he found the CrossFit training program and dove in head first. After years of being addicted to the mountain/outdoor fitness scene, Colin never envisioned himself cranking out heavy deadlifts, perfecting snatch technique, or swinging heavy kettlebells! Once instructed on how to perform these movements properly, though, his friends and family could hardly get his hands unwrapped from a barbell. Ever since, he has dedicated his life to teaching CrossFit's functional movements to anyone who has the patience and persistence to learn them.

Now, at age 35, Colin is the head coach and owner at both CrossFit Bishop and Mammoth CrossFit. He is Level I certified and has attended CrossFit's Endurance and Olympic Lifting certifications along with the CrossFit Coaches Prep Course. And most importantly, Colin is the proud father of two beautiful children, Naya and Sean!!!

Paul Elia

Paul’s passion for athletic movement started at a young age when he was introduced to rock climbing in the seventh grade. Immediately attracted to the combination of the mental and physical challenges and the endless possibility of chasing excellence, he went on to pursue outdoor adventure and physical fitness as a profession and for personal enjoyment.

After teaching for Outward Bound and living out of his disco-brown van, Amos, for many years all over the southwest, his path bounced into his wife, which eventually lead them to the beautiful Owens Valley. The richness of the surroundings and community, already continuously deepening, was recently magnified by his introduction to CrossFit Bishop.

In CrossFit, he has found the same potential for growth introduced to him so many years ago. CrossFit has provided a forum that incorporates his belief in restoring and developing connection with our innate ability through pursuit of mastery in movement, nutrition, and self-reflection; all through an up against yourself, work until you can’t any more focus.

Currently, Paul is working on his Marriage and Family Therapist license and has recently been certified as a Level One CrossFit Coach. He sees the combination of the two being a great way help people uncover their own natural ability, strength and personal potential, physically and mentally. He lives in Bishop with his wife, Meghan, and their two children, Sloan and Hudson.

Krista Cooper

Krista comes from a very physically active family with athletic talent. She was born and raised in the beautiful Eastern Sierra. She started skiing at the age of three and moved on to snowboarding. However, her passion was in dance, in both Ballet and Jazz, for twelve years, until moving on to college. Krista earned her college degree in Community and School Health Education from Cal State, Long Beach and moved back to Bishop to start a family and career. However, college, married life and having children got the best of her and she found herself struggling with exercise, good nutrition and being fit. Until one day, she came to a point in her life where she wanted a change for the better and found CrossFit Bishop, through the excitement and encouragement of her sister, Brenda. Once Krista started CrossFit Bishop she never looked back. Through the talented coaching from Colin and Pablo, she found and developed some serious determination, strength, technique and passion for CrossFit. After about a year and a half she made the decision to become a coach so that she can teach and encourage others to make a positive change in their lives by finding their own strength and physical potential.

Krista continues to find balance in her life, while recently being a Level I certified coach, a very active member of CFB, being a social worker supervisor, a mother of two awesome children and a wife. She hopes to inspire others and continue to see the positive changes that CrossFit Bishop brings to this community!

Meghan Fuchs

Meghan grew up in Rhode Island ready and willing to participate in any sport in which she was introduced. As she got older her interests became more focused and it was the sport of crew that captured her attention. In high school she rowed in a single competing throughout New England and in college she spent her time competing in 4s and 8s. The sheer physical exertion of rowing all out for 3000 meters or 3 miles was thrilling and deeply satisfying.  After college there was always a sport that she pursued as many years of teaching outdoor education turned into teaching history in middle school. Climbing, skiing and road biking provided the physicality and movement that she desired.

It wasn’t until being introduced to Crossfit a couple years ago that Meghan’s understanding of fitness was altered. From the first workout she was connected to a greater sense of her body, movement and of untapped potential. And so the journey has continued with the Level 1 Certification and the Crossfit Kids Program.

Meghan coaches adults and also runs the Crossfit Kids program at CFB. It is an adventure. Working with kids from 4-18 continues to be exciting and supremely rewarding; watching their strength and overall fitness develop and translate into confidence outside the gym.

Apprentices

Cyndee Kiddoo

Cyndee grew up in June Lake and has lived in many places all around the U.S and Germany. She returned to the Bishop area in 2008 and now with her husband is raising four very active kids. As life goes, kids and work take over and she made less and less time for herself.

Cyndee’s CrossFit experience began because of the great examples of her sisters, Brenda and Krista. It all started as a goal to lose weight and get into better shape.    It has now moved far beyond those boundaries, seeking ways to improve every aspect of her life through fitness.  “CrossFit has added value to my life and I want to share that feeling and experience as a trainer and coach.”

Cyndee lost 55 pounds in 7 months.  By, religiously showing up three days a week and cutting out all fast food.  The improvement in strength, endurance and overall fitness were noticeable within the first month, and the changes keep coming.  After 6 months, she competed in the “Best shape of my life challenge” and saw amazing changes in her ability to work hard and move weight. “I totally changed my eating habits and got in the best shape of my life at age 38! It was fascinating to me that I was getting faster, leaner and stronger. I am enjoying the other benefits of CrossFit that come with it; a higher self esteem, the feeling of empowerment, team camaraderie and of course a better, leaner, toner body. Not to mention be able to keep up with my kids and husband better. “

Cyndee has Bachelors in Healthcare Administration, and a Masters in Business Administration, and she uses these degrees as her role as the Clinic Admissions Supervisor at the Rural Health Clinic. She now looks forward to helping others in their quest for elite fitness. Cyndee has a special interest in nutrition, and though she holds no Certificates in the area, she researches daily on the subject of fueling the body, healthily.  She is the author of the CrossFit Bishop Blog and enjoys sharing her trials and triumphs with those in the CFB community. She will be getting her Level 1 Cert January 2011.

Jared Waasdorp

Jared was born and raised in the Bishop community and grew up playing numerous sports within the community including soccer, baseball, and football. Jared has been an active member of the Bishop Community and has volunteered and coached soccer, roller hockey, and youth football as his children have grown over the years.  Jared was introduced to CrossFit by a friend in March of 2010. The stresses of life pushed Jared for change and CrossFit became his outlet. Numerous months of coaching and support from Coach Colin and Coach Molly drove Jared to a 30 pound weight loss and a significant gain in strength.

Jared then decided to take his love for CrossFit and become a Level 1 CF Coach in November of 2011. His current employment as a Peace Officer challenges him physically and mentally every day. Crossfit has given Jared the edge he feels he needs to excel within his current career path and he desires to share that edge with anyone willing to learn.
